Introduction to AXIOM and Lighthouse III by Raymarine

Let's take a look at the AXIOM from Raymarine and see why this is the best unit on the market today.  In this introduction video I take a look at the new Lighthouse III operating system from Raymarine.  This is the best OS Raymarine have ever had in their products and certainly one of the best among any brand out there!

The new AXIOM from Raymarine is one of the best sonar/GPS units on the market today.  With wide spectrum CHIRP Sidevision, Downvision, Realvision 3D and High CHIRP sonar it has everything a fishermen could need.  The Android based units with Lighthouse 3 are the easiest units to use on the market in 2017.  The quad-core processor makes these the fastest and most responsive units today.

Humminbird SOLIX 15

Humminbird has just release the new SOLIX 12 and SOLIX 15 models for 2017 and I got a chance to take a look at the SOLIX 15 recently.  No doubt you have seen Gerald Swindle unveil this new unit back in February and while they covered a lot of the features I wanted to show a little bit more of what the unit has to offer.

The screen is extremely bright and easy to see, but at 1280x800 across 15.4" diagonal it is a little low in the resolution.  The menu system is just like an ONIX unit and with the lack of success of those units I was hoping for a completely new operating system.  I did find this unit much easier to use than an ONIX though.  They keypad is simplified and the touchscreen menu's make for easy access.

These units are going to be worth it for guys who run dual units at the dash and want to go back to one.  The split screen info is easy to see on a 4 panel split!  Humminbird has entered that large screen fishing market with the SOLIX that Garmin and Raymarine are in and looks like there will be some more competition coming in the next week...

Lowrance HDS Carbon First Look Video

In a previous post I went the features of the new for 2017 Lowrance HDS Carbon and whether or not you should consider upgrading.  Recently I had a chance to take a closer look at the unit for myself.  The screen is noticeably better than a Gen 3.  Their claim of more vivid colors is true and the screen can be seen very clearly from a wider angle.

In this video I cover the main changes from Gen 3 to Carbon so you can decide for yourself if it is worth upgrading to.

Be sure to comment on the YouTube page or on this post if you have any questions about the HDS Carbon.

How to Manage and Sort Waypoints by Lake

In the off season its time to clean up your reels, tackle, boat, etc and organize it for the up coming season.  Your electronics are no different.  You need to take some time and organize your waypoints and sort them according to the lake they are saved on.  Lowrance has made this process extremely simple and in this 8 minute video I show you how to do it!  Grab your phone or tablet and head to your boat and watch this video!

How to Troubleshoot No Depth Reading on a Fish or Depth Finder

There are a lot of things that can cause an issue with your sonar unit to cause it not to read depth.  It can be anything from a loose connection, bad transducer or unit, or a bad cable.  There are many ways to troubleshoot this issue.  The easiest thing is to take a second unit from another location on your boat and try it on the transducer that isn't working.  If you don't have another unit on your boat see if you can borrow a friends unit.

Take a look at this video for more detailed tips on how to troubleshoot a sonar unit that isn't reading depth.

This video shows a Lowrance unit but this procedure will work on Simrad, Humminbird, Garmin, Furuno, Vexilar, MarCum or any other brand of sonar units.

How to Setup Lowrance Hook Ice Machine

Lowrance has some new ice fishing units this year with their Hook series of Ice Machines.  These are available in a 4" sonar only Hook 4x, 4" sonar/GPS combo Hook 4 and a 5" sonar/GPS Hook 5.  These units work well in the automatic settings but if you tweak them a bit you'll have much better results.  Here are a few videos to take a look at on how to step up your unit.

The GPS versions of these units are also great to mount on a snowmobile or ATV because they can use this RAM Mount.  It will eliminate the Lowrance bracket that comes with it and snap right into the back of the unit for a very good look.  Pop in a Navionics+ card and you'll get right on top of your spot.
